Yalumba Oxford Landing Greenache 1999
South Australia

OXFORD LANDING isn't some invented name on a wine label. It's a real place, a real vineyard alongside the River Murray near the South Australian river town of Waikerie. The name OXFORD LANDING is derived from a crown land block on the banks of the Murray. These blocks were reserved for watering sheep on the long droves from the northern pastures to the markets of Adelaide.

In 1958, Wyndham Hill Smith, -then Managing Director of the Hill-Smith family-owned YALUMBA WINE COMPANY, ~(the oldest family owned winey in Australia ~1849), and a man with a sharp eye for vineyard potential, found this place. Wyndham saw the potential for growing premium grape varieties in the rich, free-draining red soils in harmony with the water resource of the Murray. He didn't have to wait long to see his vision realized. Yalumba purchased the block and began planting almost immediately. OXFORD LANDING became the first major vineyard development in the area.

Today, OXFORD LANDING is a superb modern vineyard in one of Australia's most productive grape growing areas. It now encompasses nearly 700 planted acres. At OXFORD LANDING rainfall is especially low, which is why there is such a great reliance on water the Murray supplies. Being able to draw Murray River water sparingly is not only kind to the environment but also encourages intense flavour development in the grapes and allows maximum control over quality. Drip irrigation permits an even and carefully measured water distribution. Techniques have been developed that moderate some of the stress in the vines, ~a positive stress encouraging the vines to work harder to produce smaller berries with greater intensity of flavor and color. Other techniques include higher density planting, judicious pruning regimes and trellising systems, as well as crop thinning to guarantee optimum concentration in the fruit.

The 1999 is the last vintage that will be labeled as OXFORD LANDING Limited Release, as subsequent vintages will be under the YALUMBA "Y" series. YALUMBA also produces another great Grenache from old Barossa vines called the BUSHVINE GRENACHE. These wines display elegance and balance, and tend to be less burly than southern Rhone Valley Grenache bottled as Cotes du Rhone.

Chateau des Jacques, Grand Clos de Loyse, Domaine Louis Jadot
Beaujolais~Villages Blanc 2001

In November 1996, MAISON LOUIS JADOT acquired CHATEAU DES JACQUES, an historic estate located in Moulin~a~Vent. In addition to five close planted to Gamay, CHATEAU DES JACQUES owns the 22- acre property Grand Clos de Loyse. Soley planted with Chardonnay, Grand Clos de Loyse produces a rare Beaujolais~Villages Blanc, selected from old vines. The wines are fresh, lively and elegant, with exceptional quality.

This is a property endowed with a noble history dating back to ancient times. A Chateau of nobility in the 14th century, and being recognized and admired for vineyards of exceptional quality as early as 1648. CHATEAU DES JACQUES has held the Clos de Loyse since 1943, as intact and beautiful today as ever before.. The clos lies at the border of Maconnais and Beaujolais, in the communes of La Chapelle de Guinchay and Saone-et-Loire, and lies on clay, argillosiliceous soils with southern and eastern exposure. A very limited quality is produced each year, from vines of 15 to 30 years in age.

Maison Louis Jadot is founded on a legacy of ownership and control of the finest vineyards in Burgendy. To this rarefied nucleus were added, both in the first half of the ninteenth century and later, a portfolio of some of the finest vineyard sites in the Cote de Beaune.
