Wine of the Month Club

Each month our staff will choose two to three wines exclusively for our club members. They will vary from country, style, and varietal. An extensive information sheet will accompany the wines including: menu ideas, serving suggestions, history of the grape, vineyard and region, recent accolades and other interesting facts. The monthly cost will be approximately between $25.00 and $35.00.

The wine will be available for pick-up in the store at the first of every month. Delivery is available in Anderson Township for a $4.00 fee. Outside of Anderson Township within the 275 belt, delivery is available for $8.00.

This Month's Selections - August

Bouchaine, founded in 1981, is a 38-acre estate in the prestigious Carneros region of the Napa Valley. Located just north of San Pablo Bay, the climate is directly influenced by the fog that floats in each night. The shallow, gravelly soils are best suited to the Burgundian varietals of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay produced by Bouchaine. Total case production is less that 15,000 cases of Bouchaine, the oldest continually operated winery in Carneros.

Winemaking at Bouchaine is a dynamic process where diversity is created by tailoring vinification and cellar practices to the individual vineyard lots. Most Chardonnay lots are barrel fermented and aged sur lie for six months to add texture and toasty vanilla nuances. A fraction of the wine is cold fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve delicate floral aromas. Depending on the vintage, 25-40% of the chardonnay goes through malolactic fermentation to soften the lean, citrus character of the Carneros grapes. Balance, complexity, and a unique expression of varietal fruit defines Bouchaine Chardonnays.

Winemaker David Stevens continues Bouchaine's philosophy of producing wines that are crisp, well-balanced and elegant and demonstrate the varietal characteristics of fruit grown in the Carneros region and neighboring areas.

We have two unbelievable values to offer to the club this month. I met with someone from the winery last month and in order to move on to the next vintage, he offered these wines at surprisingly discounted prices. The Pinot Noir was originally $22.99 and the Chardonnay was $17.99. They are both in very limited supply so if you'd like to purchase any more, please act quickly.

1999 Bouchaine Carneros Chardonnay . . . . . $12.99

Winemaker David Stevens, "I was looking towards a crisper, cleaner style taking my cue from the fruit itself." The nose is redolent with notes of guava, passion fruit, vanilla, and spice. The mouth- filling complexity includes flavors of candied lemon peel and honeydew melon. Long, crisp finish.

1997 Bouchaine Carneros Pinot Noir . . . . . $12.99

The 1997 Caneros Pinot Noir is a saturated deep ruby in color. Berry and dark Bing cherry fill the nose, followed by the touch cola, aromatic cedar, and a hint of nutmeg. Medium in weight, the crisp structure fills the mouth with ultra berry, ultra cherry and a little sweet tobacco, with orange rind on the mid palate. The lingering, clean finish hints at cassis, huckleberry and blueberry. Delightful now, this wine will also age well.
